Random Reminiscences is short (~40,000 words, 7 chapters), so — unlike a large
treatise — the entire book is the evidence pool, not a selected subset of
chapters. The chapters:

• I. Some Old Friends (partners, friendship founded on business, detail work)
• II. The Difficult Art of Getting (Ledger A, bookkeeping apprenticeship,
  the first loan, sticking to a principle, «go steady»)
• III. The Standard Oil Company (cooperation and harmony, the modern
  corporation, combination as necessity, knowing your books)
• IV. Some Experiences in the Oil Business (ruinous competition and the
  reason for combination, dividends, the Backus purchase, rebates)
• V. Other Business Experiences and Business Principles (nursing the
  commercially ill, employing a competitor on trust, «follow the laws of trade»,
  patience through panics)
• VI. The Difficult Art of Giving (limitations of the rich, the best
  philanthropy, scientific giving, help people to help themselves, the six
  elements of civilization)
• VII. The Benevolent Trust — The Value of the Cooperative Principle in

Touched, but out of the evidence pool (marked)

• Rockefeller's testimony, letters, and speeches outside this memoir (e.g.
  the 1899 Industrial Commission hearing, which the book refers to but does not
  reproduce in full). Only what is quoted verbatim inside Random Reminiscences
  is evidence here.
• Biographies and secondary accounts (Nevins, Chernow's Titan, Ida
  Tarbell's History of the Standard Oil Company). Tarbell's hostile account is
  the direct antagonist to this memoir's self-presentation, but it is a separate
  corpus, not ingested. The Backus-purchase chapter is Rockefeller's rebuttal
  and is used only as his account, marked as such.

Excluded from v1

• The embedded documents (the Backus letters and affidavits from Marr, Maloney,
  H. M. Backus) as independent facts about the Backus affair: they are quoted by
  Rockefeller inside his own defence and are evidence of his narration, not
  neutral adjudication.
• «Best of Rockefeller» motivational quote collections without an edition trace —
  the internet floods his name with lines he never wrote (see
  QUOTE_AUTHENTICITY, esp. the «earn 1% off 100 people's efforts» fabrication).
• Modern edited/abridged reprints — the Gutenberg text is the anchor.

Reason

Random Reminiscences is the primary document of the organizer-capitalist ethic
in the author's own voice: cooperation over ruinous competition, patience and the
long view, the discipline of detail, friendship and trust in business, and
«the difficult art of giving» as a science. It is short enough that binding the
evidence to the whole book keeps the KB honest and complete without cherry-picking.
The point of the KB is his stated creed, adversarially fact-checked against
floating quotes — not a verdict on whether the creed matched his conduct
(that debate routes to Tarbell / the muckraker record, outside this corpus).
